As humans, we are used to believing in what we can see with our eyes and touch with our hands. We have relationships with friends, parents, siblings, and others we can see, high-five, hug, and more. These are the things that are real to us.
And yet, God is realer than all of them. Though we can’t see or touch Him, we can know him in the way we know the people around us.
This is because there is another aspect of us as human beings that goes beyond the physical realm and into the spiritual one. Each of us has a soul, a spirit, that wants to know God. When we face difficulty, we can seek Him to give us comfort and fulfillment through prayer and reading the Bible, His Word.
It might seem totally strange to talk to someone you can’t see. Maybe you wonder, how can you know God is listening? It may feel weird to flip through the pages of a Bible. You might ask yourself, what could I possibly learn from such a large and ancient book?
But the answer to these questions and more can start to become clearer if you just try to pray or read your Bible.
Today, in your home, your car, your office, wherever, try to do one little thing. Open your mouth and express yourself to God, or write down your words to Him. Open the Bible, read just a bit, and see what you can get out of it.
Ask God to show You who He is.
Just try it.
